به گزارش سافت‌گذر به نقل از تسنیم، مؤسسه توسعه رسانه‌ها درصدد اجرای پروژه “اوترنت” با هدف در دسترس قرار دادن اینترنت رایگان برای تمامی ساکنان کره خاکی است.
در این پروژه قرار است با استفاده از ظرفیت چند صد ماهواره کوچک (مینیاتوری) در مدار زمین، تبادل داده بین ایستگاه‌های مخابراتی زمینی فراهم شود و با ابزاری دریافت کننده (ریسیور) بتوان به شبکه اینترنت متصل شد.
ظاهرا فاز اول به ارسال اطلاعات اختصاص دارد و کاربران نمی‌توانند محتوایی را منتشر کنند اما در فاز پایانی ارتباطات دو سویه فراهم شده و به نوعی اینترنت به شکل کنونی در اختیار کاربران قرار خواهد گرفت.
نمونه اولیه‌ای از ggهم‌اکنون توسعه یافته و قرار است تا سال 2015، صدها نمونه از آن بر مدار زمین قرار گیرد.
گفته شده است با توسعه چنین پروژه‌ای نزدیک به چهار میلیارد کاربر جدید به شبکه اینترنت فعلی متصل می شوند.
